So, how do you find good continuing education on this?

  • Look for Experts: Find courses taught by actual surveyors who specialize in technology, or by certified software trainers (e.g., from Carlson, Trimble, or Topcon).
  • Hands-On is Best: A PDF about SurvCE is not training. The best CE is a live webinar where you can ask questions, or an in-person workshop where you use your own data collector.
  • Board Acceptance: Does it count for PDH? Yes. As long as the course is “technical and relevant to the practice of land surveying,” every state board will accept it. Training on your primary instrument of measurement (total station, GPS, data collector) is the definition of relevant continuing education.
