- Who is in “Responsible Charge”? Boards are making it clear: a non-licensed drone pilot cannot create a survey. A Professional Surveyor must be in responsible charge of the entire project, from flight planning and ground control to data processing and final assessment.
- Accuracy vs. Precision: The surveyor guidance being issued reminds us that a “pretty picture” is not a survey. The PLS is responsible for verifying that the data meets all accuracy standards for the class of survey being performed.

- LOMAs/LOMRs: The process for Letters of Map Amendment/Revision requires precise documentation and adherence to FEMA’s data submission standards.
- BFE Assessment: Your professional assessment of the Base Flood Elevation, lowest adjacent grade, and facility diagram number is a high-liability task. New FEMA maps or revised guidance can change how you determine this, directly impacting a homeowner’s flood insurance reimbursement or premiums.
